Once again the natural beauty of south Armagh has been blighted by the actions of those engaged in the illegal fuel laundering trade.
Cubes of toxic sludge were dumped in the dead of night around the Gullion area, the latest in a long line of such incidents.
Slieve Gullion SF Councillor Mickey Larkin has expressed his despair.
“The community believed that this type of environmental terrorism had been consigned to history by the introduction of a new dye to off road diesel,” he said.
“However, three cubes bursting with toxic sludge were dumped on a rural road in south Armagh overnight.
“Residents in the area are disgusted by the total disregard these people have for their family and neighbours.
“This is not a victimless crime. The cost of the clean-up and disposal is met by the taxpayers and ratepayers here in the north.
“At a time when there is much work promoting south Armagh to tourists and day trippers we have criminals destroying our image, our countryside and the warmth and welcome that is Slieve Gullion.
“Shame on them for putting profit before the wellbeing of their own community.”
