A Portadown man who ripped a door off its hinges and punched a hole in the wall of a rental property has been fined £300.

The 29-year-old, who represented himself in court, said: “It is not something I normally do and I won’t do it again.”

Gavin Massey, of Lisnisky Lodge, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Prosecution stated that on July 3 the defendant ripped a bedroom door from its hinges and punched a hole in a wall of a property owned by Apec Property Letting.

It was heard that the estimated cost of the damage caused by Massey was £200.

The defendant, who represented himself, informed the court that he had already paid for the repair. This was confirmed by the prosecution.

He stated: “It was stupid. It is not something I normally do and I won’t do it again.”

Massey was ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
