Watch: Kings William and James do battle at annual Scarva Sham Fight celebrations

Thousands attend as sun shines on Scarva for annual Sham Fight celebrations

Tens of thousands converged on Scarva for the annual Sham Fight celebrations.

The sun glimpsed through on what was a warm and welcoming afternoon in the picturesque village.

Seventy-five bands paraded through the village accompanied by members of the Royal Black Institution en route to the Demesne where crowds had gathered in anticipation of the main attraction.

John Adair as King William III once again with his army defeated King James II, played by Colin Cairns to rapturous applause in front of Scarvagh House, just a short distance from where the real ‘King Billy’ tied his horse to a tree on his way to the Battle of the Boyne.

Bands travelled from as far away as Ballymena, Coleraine and Donaghadee, with Blackskull Flute Band once again making the annual trip from Glasgow in Scotland.

The traditional family day out was once again enjoyed by all, as thoughts already turn to plans for 2018!
