Claire’s on brink of collapse – jobs at risk in Banbridge, Craigavon and Newry

Fashion accessories chain Claire’s has entered administration, putting jobs at risk in Banbridge, Craigavon and Newry.

Across the UK there are more than 2,100 staff facing uncertain futures.

The company has 278 shops in the UK and 28 in Ireland – including stores at The Boulevard in Banbridge, Rushmere in Craigavon and The Quays in Newry.

The brand has been been struggling with falling sales and online competition.

Claire’s chief executive Chris Cramer said the “difficult” decision to appoint administrators allows its stores to remain open.

“This decision, while difficult, is part of our broader effort to protect the long-term value of Claire’s across all markets,” said Mr Cramer.

“In the UK, taking this step will allow us to continue to trade the business while we explore the best possible path forward.

“We are deeply grateful to our employees, partners and our customers during this challenging period.”
