Police are urging the public to refrain from speculation following an incident involving a teenage male last week in Rathfriland.
In a public appeal, a PSNI spokesperson said: “We are aware of speculation on social media regarding the nature of an incident in the Cross Heights area of Rathfriland on Wednesday, August 6.
“We would like to reassure the public that there was no risk to the wider community.
“This related to a concern for the safety of a teenage male and he was taken to hospital.
“We would ask that people refrain from adding to any misinformation. Any concerns speak to Banbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.”
DUP Councillor Ian Wilson said: “I am glad that the Police has clarified this situation. I had been in contact with the Police last week regarding this incident. It was really concerning that false information has been circulated.”
