Pressure is to be brought on the relevant authorities for a full public realm scheme in Loughgall after confirmation long-overdue works on footpaths in the village are to go ahead.
The “invaluable” support of the Loughgall District Improvements Association has been welcomed by local MP Carla Lockhart in helping to progress the paths issue.
It comes to address longstanding concerns about safety and the overall appearance of the village centre.
But the DUP Upper Bann representative – while welcoming confirmation that work would begin “soon” – said much more needs to be done for the historic Co Armagh village.
Said Ms Lockhart: “For too long, residents and businesses in Loughgall have been frustrated by the poor state of the footpaths, which have become hazardous for pedestrians and have detracted from the aesthetics of our beautiful village.
“I have been actively engaging with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) and the Council to push for action, so it is fantastic to see progress being made.
“The planned works in the heart of the village, opposite the shop, will not only improve pedestrian safety but also enhance the area with granite paving and new planters. This is a much-needed investment that will help restore pride in our community and make Loughgall a more welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.
“While this is a very positive step forward, I firmly believe there is still more to be done. I will continue to push for a full Village Regeneration Plan, which would see a comprehensive public realm scheme delivered to renew all the footpaths with high-quality granite paving. Loughgall deserves infrastructure that is fit for the future and reflects the character of this historic village.
“I also want to acknowledge the Loughgall District Improvement Association, whose dedication and advocacy for the village have been invaluable in securing this progress. It’s always a pleasure to work alongside them to deliver real improvements for the community.
“Thank you to DfI and the Council for listening to local concerns and taking action. I look forward to seeing these long-overdue improvements get underway and will continue to work hard to ensure further investment in Loughgall’s future.”
