Kilcluney community gets ‘a very welcome boost’

The Ulster Unionist Assembly member for Newry & Armagh, Danny Kennedy MLA, has warmly welcomed the announcement by the Stormont Executive of an allocation of funding to further develop community facilities at Kilcluney, Markethill.

Mr Kennedy said it was “a very welcome boost to the local community”, and he paid particular tribute to “the very hard working team at Kilcluney who have brought forward this important project”.

Mr Kennedy said that he had been pleased to give his active and positive assistance to the project promoters as the scheme had progressed to date, as indeed had his Party colleagues on Armagh City & District Council and the staff in his Advice Centre in Markethill.

Mr Kennedy paid warm tribute to the Kilcluney Project Team, who he said, “have pursued their dream of proper sporting, recreational and community facilities with a steely determination, and have now achieved a very positive result.”

Mr Kennedy said that as a Minister in the Stormont Executive, he was pleased that funding had been agreed for the Kilcluney Project, in his own constituency, which he said would provide very positive opportunities in terms not only of construction jobs, but also huge benefits for social, sporting and community development in the mid- Armagh area.

Mr Kennedy said:- “I look forward to continuing to work with the Kilcluney Project Team as we approach the next important stage of this development. I know that the entire community can and will benefit from this scheme, which I firmly believe has the capacity to transform facilities in the Markethill area.”

Mr Kennedy concluded – “This has happened as a result of teamwork, and not the efforts of any single individual or political Party.”
