Vigilance urged after overnight burglaries in Tassagh

Two overnight break-ins in Tassagh have left local families devastated after a large quantity of tools was stolen.

The incidents happened at around 3.10am on Sunday morning on the Ballybrolly Road.

A garage and workshop at one property was targeted, while a works van at a second home was also broken into.

According to SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon, a “considerable amount of tools” – including Milwaukee-branded equipment – were taken during the incidents.

“These are two hard-working people and this has left them devastated,” he said.

Cllr O’Hanlon appealed to anyone living in the area to review their CCTV or doorbell footage around the time of the burglaries.

“Those responsible are believed to have come in via either the Granemore Road entrance at the Rock Bar, or via Tassagh Road below my family home,” he explained.

He added: “If you have any information please get in touch and I can pass it on, or contact the police directly.

“It’s terrible to even have to ask, but please be vigilant. Keep garages and sheds locked, and if you can, avoid leaving valuable tools in vehicles overnight. Please share this message and be vigilant.”

Anyone with information can also contact police on 101.

Sinn Féin Councillor Bróna Haughey also hit out the recent break-ins.

“I strongly condemn these disgraceful incidents and want to express my full solidarity with those affected. No one should feel unsafe in their own home,” she said.

Councillor Haughey confirmed she will be working with police on the issue and emphasised the impact such crimes have on communities.

“Criminal activity like this causes real fear and concern. People deserve to feel secure in their homes, and these break-ins have understandably left families upset.

“If you saw anything suspicious or have any information which could help please bring it forward to the police. Additionally, I call on local residents to please check any CCTV footage they may have of the time, and share with the police.

“Please remain vigilant. Look out for your neighbours – particularly older or vulnerable residents – and report anything unusual.

“These incidents are upsetting, but I know the strength of our community.

“I will continue working with residents of the area and the police on this and also to help keep our area safe.”
