A creative support group for adults with autism, learning disabilities and additional needs has found its first, “very own” home in Armagh city centre.
Circle of Friends – formerly based at Dobbin Community Centre – has just this week moved into their new base on Thomas Street, a milestone and “huge step” for the community group.
At Circle of Friends, they believe everyone is different and shirk the notion that “one size fits all”. All of their weekly activities are based around the interests, abilities and preferences of those who attend.
As part of their weekly routine, they openly speak with participants about what they would like to do or where they wish to go and then plan their sessions around those ideas, giving everyone a turn to contribute.
Their sessions can include arts and crafts, baking and cooking, shopping for ingredients, community walks and outings, sensory activities, games and social time and building confidence, independence and friendships.
Making the announcement of their big move, the group said they were “so excited” to have moved into their very own premises.
Their new hub can be found at 53 Thomas Street and means they now have their own “dedicated space where our members can connect, have fun, learn new skills, make friends and enjoy a variety of activities in a safe and welcoming environment.”
Said Circle of Friends: “We’ve been busy getting the space ready, and we’re so pleased with how it’s all coming together!
“A massive thank you to everyone who has helped us get the new premises ready — from painting and decorating to moving furniture, putting things together and helping create a space that our members can enjoy. We honestly couldn’t have done it without you!
“We’re so excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to make lots of new memories here. Here’s to the new home of Circle of Friends!”
