A PSNI spokesperson said portacabins were attacked on the Madden Road on Wednesday (June 12) between the hours of 1pm and 5pm.

Firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 3.45pm. with two appliances from Armagh and one from Keady attending.

A spokesperson for NIFRS said: “Firefighters were caused to reports of rubbish on fire at Madden Row, Keady. Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is believed to have been deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 4.20pm.”

The police spokesperson continued: “Any person with information on this please contact 101 and quote reference 1135-120624.”

Speaking at the time, SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon, said: “Some ‘pleasant’ young people attempted to set fire to the changing facilities at Madden Row Playing Field.

“This is a vital facility for the local football community and it sickens me to think someone would want to damage a place such as this.

“I just wish those responsible for antics like this, or indeed recent attempts to set fire to the Old Mill would channel their energies into something positive in our community. The vast majority of young people have no time for wasters who do this crap.

“Thanks to the team from Keady Fire and Rescue Service for their swift response.”
