The public are invited to walk in the steps of a beloved wife, mother and friend from Keady who passed away in May of last year.

The fundraising walk – to take place in Carnagh Forest – will be held in memory of Hilary Nugent, who was known for walking the paths through the forest near her home “every morning”.

Organised by Hilary’s family, the event has been named ‘Hilary’s Walk’ and will raise money for Pulmonary Fibrosis NI – a condition the mum-of-three had long battled.

Speaking of their mum’s experience with the progressive lung-scarring disease, her children said: “Our mum was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) when we were young children and she always put up a strong and brave front through all her hard times.

“We would love for more research and support to be given to this charity in memory of mum. Any donations are greatly appreciated.”

Ahead of the event, Sean Doran Boxing Club also recognised Hilary’s deep connection to the leafy surrounds of Carnagh Forest, explaining: “This is a walk which Hilary tread countless times and it is the beautiful surroundings of Carnagh Forest, a place where Hilary sought refuge, time to reflect and indeed prayed daily. Please go along and support this great lady’s memory.”

The local boxing club also backed the walk by hosting a Hyrox event on Saturday, August 9 to raise money for the cause.

The event was an incredible success with “62 souls” turning out to complete a 5km ‘Hyrox style course’.

Said Sean Doran Boxing Club: “Everyone had a great day and with a lot of aching limbs through to now.

“Of course the exercise element of the challenge was immense but our main aim was to raise funds in memory of Hilary Nugent RIP for Pulmonary Fibrosis NI. Well done again to all with £1200+ going towards Hilary’s Walk on August 24.”

Everyone is welcome to join the Nugent family on their walk through Carnagh Forest starting at 3pm.

They have now raised a total of £1,644 at the time of writing and are grateful for every penny towards a cause so close to their hearts.

More information on the walk can be found here.
