Hospice’s Dungannon Hub celebrate launch of ‘carefully compiled’ bereavement book

'We hope the book will bring comfort and solace to others on their own journey through grief'

Southern Area Hospice’s (SAH) Dungannon Hub was delighted to announce a special milestone for its Drop-In Café with the launch of a new book dedicated to supporting individuals in their journey through bereavement.

This heartfelt event took place at the Drop-In Café on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Carefully compiled to provide solace, inspiration, and guidance to those experiencing loss, the book is filled with stories and reflections.

It was written over several months by individuals who took part in SAH’s Drop-In Café, which is held every Wednesday morning at South Tyrone Hospital, Dungannon.

Derek Dunn, Chaplain at SAH, and lead for the Drop-In Café in Dungannon commented: “I find taking this group very rewarding. The people who attend offer so much, so I had to get it down on paper, in the form of the book.

“The bond in the group truly is a credit to them. It is a testament to the resilience and shared strength within the bereavement community. We hope the book will bring comfort and solace to others on their own journey through grief”.

The Drop-In Café is an integral part of the Bereavement Services provided by Southern Area Hospice. It serves as a welcoming space where individuals can meet, share their experiences, and find comfort in the company of others.. By fostering meaningful connections and friendships, the café plays a vital role in helping people navigate the challenges of grief.

In addition to the Drop-In Café, Southern Area Hospice offers other bereavement services to support individuals and families coping with loss.

These services include 1-2-1 support and counselling, complementary therapy sessions, a family night, walking groups and the Bereavement Journey programme.

The services enable families and carers, both adults and children, to face the inevitable and help them through the grieving process by working through emotions and problems they may find difficult following bereavement.
