‘Things are much better’: Armagh resident notes improvement following plague of ‘loud cars’ and speeding

Armagh car at night

There has been a positive update following Armagh I‘s report of speeding, “loud cars” and “banging exhausts” in the Shambles and Cathedral Road area of Armagh.

The resident who initially made contact with this publication at the end of April to raise numerous motoring issues which they described as causing “hell on earth” for those living in the area has now explained that things have improved since publication of the article.

In a letter sent to our office back in April, the resident alleged that cars were “doing at least 50 miles per hour with their engines so loud, and also their exhausts making banging noises like shots going off” both in the early hours of the morning and late at night.

In a call to action, a portion of the letter read: “To anyone who has been affected by these cars I say stand up to these people, inundate the PSNI and your local councillors with complaints every time it happens. Let them know it has to stop, not tomorrow, not next week, not next month… but NOW!”

However, by way of an update, the resident has sent a new letter explaining, “To date things are much better.”

The letter also extended a thanks to those motorists who are behaving more considerately as of late.

It added: “Thanks to the drivers for their understanding and turning down the noise.

“It’s such a relief for everyone, especially the children and the elderly.”

The resident also gave thanks to Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Cordner PSNI for “his words and promises.”

However, while appreciative of the change, the resident continues to be disappointed in local representatives who have not publicly highlighted this problem.
