A charity golf event held in memory of Armagh man Harry McGeough was a resounding success, raising £6,500 for Cancer Research UK.
The fourth annual golf day in memory of Harry ‘The Legend’ McGeough was held in August, and was a great day of golf at the Armagh Golf Club.
Harry (75), died on September 15, 2020, two days after contracting Covid-19, having battled cancer for seven years prior to his passing.
Harry, who was affectionately referred to as ‘The Legend’, was a well-known Armagh man who was involved in a number of local sporting clubs and who also sang at weddings and bars.
In recognition of the care he received at Craigavon Area Hospital, and in memory of his life, Harry’s wife Brenda set up ‘Harry’s Day’, which has become an annual event.
Over the last number of years, the event has raised over £20,000.
This year’s event saw 51 golfers take to the course, Keith Campbell being the overall winner. The junior winner was Darragh Mullen from Co. Meath.
£800 was raised from a hole flag, signed by Tiger Woods.
Speaking to Armagh I, Brenda said it was a “great day of golf”.
She said: “I would just like to thank everybody who played golf, donated, sponsored holes, and to JPs Chippy for the food vouchers. Also to family and friends. Without them it would never go ahead.”
