Hungry bikers across the country are being invited for the third consecutive year to attend a special ‘Burger Run’ in memory of Killylea father-of-two, Desmond Clarke.
Organised by Desmond’s daughter, Ashley the bike run will raise vital funds for Huntington’s Disease, the degenerative disease her father battled for 14 years.
Desmond’s diagnosis came in 2008 when Ashley was just 14 years old and she took on a carer’s role for him alongside her brother Ryan.
Regrettably, he passed away on August 31, 2022 aged just 55 years.
This year will be particularly poignant for Ashley as just two weeks ago she received the incredible news that she had not inherited the gene for the disease despite her and her brother each having had a 50% chance.
Since losing her father, Ashley has been involved in charitable work around raising funds and awareness for Huntington’s Disease. The Burger Run in his honour came to fruition by combining her love for bikes with the cause so close to her heart.
On August 31 – the date of the third anniversary of her father’s passing – bikers from all over the country will come together at the starting point in Killylea to ride out for Huntington’s Disease Youth Organisation.
The event will start at 11.45am sharp at Killylea Play Park, before proceeding along a “brand new route” to Castleblayney, Ballybay, Newtownhamilton, and back again.
Marshalls will be lined along the route to keep everyone on course!
And when bikers return to Killylea, that’s where Ashley says the “real treat awaits” with burgers (of course!), light refreshments and plenty of craic!
Last year, the Burger Run welcomed 100 bikes to the event and this year Ashley is hoping to kick that record to the kerb.
Speaking to Armagh I, Ashley said: “We got such an amazing turn out last year it would be great to get the same.”
