Almost 60 years since the first Cambridge Folk Festival, a Makem will once again take to the stage as Tom Makem follows in his Uncle Tommy’s famous footsteps alongside The Armagh Rhymers.
Cambridge Folk Festival is one of the world’s longest running folk festivals. Back in 1965, at the very first festival, the star attraction was County Armagh legend Tommy Makem who was the headline act along with The Clancy Brothers.
Now, 58 years later, Tommy’s nephew the incredible Tom Makem will be performing at Cambridge Folk Festival with The Armagh Rhymers, Dara Vallely, Anne Hart, Annie June Callaghan, Sarah Barry, Robbie McGleenan and Larry Harte on Sunday, July 30.
In another delightful link to the past the banjo played by Tom, gifted to him by his Uncle Tommy, was once owned by the late, great Pete Seeger whose sister Peggy was also on the line up back in ’65!
Speaking of the historic links Tom Makem said: “I’m totally honoured to be playing at the Cambridge Folk Festival as my late uncle Tommy played over half a century ago. Looking forward to stepping out and raising the rafters with my fellow Rhymers.”
