At a young age his father taught him ceili and set dancing while he learnt social dancing from his mother.

Gerard began teaching dancing at the age of 17 and since then has passed on his skills and knowledge to generations of enthusiastic beginners.

As well as arranging dance weekends in different parts of Ireland, he features regularly on RTE and BBC and often co-choreographs the dance segment on Ryan Tubridy’s The Late Late Country Show.
