Aonach Mhacha launch all ability Autumn Winter Irish Language classes

Classes for all levels of learner will begin during the second week in September 2023

Aonach Mhacha, Armagh’s largest Irish language social enterprise, has just announced another full programme of face-to-face Irish language classes commencing again this autumn in the modern, state-of-the-art surroundings of Cultúrlann Aonach Mhacha in the Shambles area of the city.

Since 2010 Aonach Mhacha and CAIRDE Teo have been providing evening lessons and intensive courses to people from all age groups and community backgrounds.

With a variety of different levels and learning options available, they’re sure to have a course that meets your specific language needs.

They have also added Ulster University’s Diploma in Modern Irish to the learning options available in Aonach Mhacha for the 2023/24 term.

Whether you have no previous knowledge of the language, have a cúpla focal, or you are on the road to fluency, you are welcome to take part in the classes.

There is also an array of Irish language activities, such as the conversation circle, book club and a myriad of social events in Aonach Mhacha where you can practice your spoken Irish with friends and fellow learners.

Cultúrlann Aonach Mhacha is the only venue in Armagh City where Irish is spoken daily. It’s an excellent place for Irish learners to hang out if they want to improve their listening and oral skills.

Learning a language has been proven to enhance cognitive function and mental health. It is also an enjoyable way to socialise and meet new friends.

Interest in the Irish language in Armagh is at an all-time high, with a young, confident and vibrant Irish speaking community in the city.

More and more social and employment opportunities are opening for Irish speakers, both in Ireland and in Europe, and demand for places at Irish medium pre-schools and primary schools also continues to grow apace across Armagh, Keady, Lurgan, Dungannon, Crossmaglen and Portadown.

So, whatever your reason for wanting to learn Irish, Armagh is the place to learn. You can register now here.

Each course lasts 10 weeks and will commence week beginning September 11, 2023.

The fee for the full 10-week course is £40 waged and £30 unwaged. Payment can be made online or by paying at the Cultúrlann reception.

Courses consist of one face-to-face class each week with professionally qualified Irish language teachers who are fully equipped with all the resources to start or continue your journey with the Irish language.

Aonach Mhacha also recently announced a major achievement for the Irish speakers of Armagh by announcing that Ulster University will be bringing their Irish language diploma to Armagh city for the first time ever.

The diploma will also be starting in Aonach Mhacha in September. Registration can be accessed via the Ulster University website here.

An information night for all the Irish classes and the Ulster University Diploma will be held in Aonach Mhacha on Thursday, September 7, at 7p.m.

This is a great opportunity for anyone attending the classes to meet with the tutors and fellow learners and ask any questions you may have before the classes begin.
