NI’s newest cycling club launches inaugural charity sportive

Northern Ireland’s newest cycling club, Armagh Down CC, is hosting its inaugural sportive, The Gullion Tour, on Sunday, May 1.

With two routes – a 60km ride and more challenging 100km spin – the event will take in all the sights of the Ring of Gullion, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with all proceeds in aid of Multiple Sclerosis Newry.

A fully marshalled event, the Tour of Gullion promises to be a fantastic day for riders of all abilities and there will be much-needed food and refreshments at the finish in Newry Sports Centre. For the 100km route there will be a food stop at Jonesborough Pastoral Centre.

Commenting on the event, Armagh Down CC Chairman, Benny Smyth said: “With the exposure and positive feedback received to date we are expecting good numbers on the day, with the ultimate goal of providing a charity with much needed funds to continue the work they are doing in the area.”

Breidge O’Hare, Chair of Multiple Sclerosis Newry, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, added: “We are grateful to Armagh Down Cycling Club for choosing us as their charity partner and we are looking forward to the event on Sunday, May 1.

“Multiple Sclerosis Newry Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is an independent local charity and fundraising is vital for us to continue to provide our services to multiple sclerosis sufferers in Newry.

“We wish all participants the best of luck!”

Registration is open from 8.30am at Newry Sports Centre with riders departing at 9.30am. Minimum donation is £15/€15.
