St Patrick’s, Cullyhanna ‘2-05’ V Culloville Blues ‘0-10’
THIS was the proverbial smash and grab as St Patrick’s Cullyhanna progressed the semi-final of the senior championship thanks to a somewhat fortuitous victory over Culloville last Saturday evening.
Despite being outplayed for large chunks of this game, St Patrick’s were able to come away with the one point victory thanks to two second half fisted goals from Gary McCooey.
The Blues will still be wondering what might have been as they held a seven point lead with 15 minutes remaining.
However, a miss placed kick dropped short with McCooey knocking the ball past the goalkeeper into the net. St Pat’s added another point before a they replicated the first goal. This time a Tony Donnelly free fell short but McCooey was again on hand to put his side in control of the tie with just minutes remaining.
Two points down Culloville did manage to pull one back but were unable to add to that as the Cullyhanna men shut them out.
