All-Ireland champions put the disappointment of a defeat to Galway in the opening round of the Allianz league to take all two points against arch-rivals Tyrone in their first home game of the new season on Saturday night.
Kieran McGeeney’s men saw off the Red Hands on a scoreline of 1-23 to 0-19 with goalkeeper, Ethan Rafferty, picking up the Man-of-the-Match award in front of 14,336 fans in a floodlit Athletic Grounds.
While Blaine Hughes would feel aggrieved to have missed out on an All-Star for his performances in the Orchard’s historic 2024 season, it’s Rafferty who looks set to thrive under the new rules.
Armagh played with a strong wind in the first half and made the most of it as the racked up a 1-14 to 0-3 lead at the break.
Tyrone couldn’t quite reduce the deficit in the second half as Armagh saw out the game to pick up the first points of the new season and lay down a marker for the campaign ahead.
Next up for Armagh is a trip to Donegal on Sunday, February 16.
