Tandragee Rovers 2 V 0 Crewe United
TANDRAGEE Rovers returned to league action after a break of seven weeks due to cup matches with a 2-0 home win against Crewe United.
The home side had forward Cecil Corbett to thank as his 10th and 11th goals of the season sealed the three points and continued his run of scoring in every game this season.
The first half was a scrappy enough affair with neither side really creating any real clear cut goal scoring opportunities.
The first chance of the game fell to Crewe when a slip in the Rovers defence was capitalised on by the Crewe number nine but as he lifted his shot over Daniel Rowney Colin Bingham got back to clear the ball before it crossed the line.
Just before the break a through ball by Mark Bicker released AJ Gallagher but a Crewe defender got in a timely tackle just as he was about to shoot.
Tandragee came out for the second half knowing they had to raise their game and they went ahead within a minute of the restart.
Mark Bicker picked the ball up in midfield and he went on surging run into the box before cutting the ball back to Cecil Corbett who poked the ball into the bottom corner. This goal brought the game to life with both teams looking more threatening in front of goal.
Tandragee had to thank Daniel Rowney for maintaining their lead with two great saves, first diving at the feet to bloke a shot when left one on one and then to push away a deflected shot from the edge of the box.
With 20 minutes to go Tandragee increased their lead when the ball fell to Corbett in the box, he took a touch before blasting home past the helpless keeper.
This goal gave Rovers more confidence and they dominated the closing stages. They had chances to increase their lead but they failed to do so. Corbett had the chance to get his hattrick but he rushed his shot and pulled in wide of the post.
Cecil Corbett and Scott Walker both shared the Rovers man of the match award.
