Tandragee man charged with making indecent photos of a child and possessing 131 images

A Tandragee man has appeared at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on charges of making and possessing indecent images of children.

Thomas Shane Caldwell (66), of Mullavilly Heights, is accused of nine separate counts of making an indecent photo or pseudo photo of a child on April 9, 2016.

He is also charged with having in his possession 131 indecent photographs of a child on December 14, 2016.

Caldwell, who appeared in court today (Tuesday), sitting in Newry, was asked if he objected to the holding of a preliminary enquiry, to which he replied ‘no’.

He also told the court he was aware of the charges against him and did not wish to give evidence or say anything in relation to them.

District Judge Bernie Kelly remanded Caldwell on his own bail of £500 to reside at Mullavilly Heights, and told him he must not be in possession of any type of device that can access the internet.

The defendant has been ordered to appear in Newry Crown Court on a date yet to be decided.
