Serious sexual assault on woman (20) in Armagh City

Detectives from the  PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch are investigating a serious sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman in the Callanbridge area of Armagh.
The assault is  believed to have taken place at around 12.30am on Wednesday, April 16.

Detectives investigating the assault are keen to hear from anyone  who was in the Callanbridge Road, Nursery Road and Mullacreevie areas between  midnight on Tuesday, April 15, into the morning of Wednesday, at  approximately 1am and who may have witnessed the assault.

Detectives  can be contacted by calling the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would  prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the  independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Sinn Féin councillor Garath Keating described reports of the attack as a “deeply upsetting, despicable and sickening act against a vulnerable young woman”.
He continued that while he was unaware of the full details of the matter and did not want to cause undue panic he would “urge people to be mindful of their personal safety at all times”.
He continued that his thoughts and those of the local community were with the young woman at this undoubtedly difficult time.
“I hope this young women receives help, support and advice at this time”, adding that he reiterated calls for anyone with any information whatsoever, which may assist in the apprehension of the attacker to come forward and contact the police.
