The family of the late Tony Nugent, from Keady, have raised almost £7,000 for Evora Hospice Care after organising a heartfelt memorial walk around Tullynawood Lake.
On Sunday, June 22, dozens of friends, relatives and supporters joined the Nugent family for the scenic fundraiser, which brought in an incredible £6,868 for the hospice – formerly known as Southern Area Hospice – in tribute to the care Tony received in his final days.
Speaking after the event, the family said: “During the most difficult chapter of his life, Tony was cared for by the wonderful team at Evora Hospice Care. They gave him comfort, compassion, and peace when it mattered most.
“The care they provided didn’t just ease Tony’s pain – it wrapped around our whole family. They were there with kind words, gentle hands, and open hearts, making sure we never felt alone. That kind of support is something you never forget – and something every family facing loss truly deserves.”
Evora Hospice Care provides specialist palliative services to patients and families across Armagh, Down and Tyrone. The organisation faces annual running costs of around £6 million, with £4 million – or 65% – needing to be raised through fundraising alone. That works out at £335,000 each month, £77,000 each week, £11,000 a day or £460 every hour.
Thanks to the generosity of all those who took part in the walk or donated, the Nugent family’s fundraising will help ensure other families can benefit from the same care and support that meant so much to Tony and his loved ones.
