Storms Ciara and Dennis force Mullahead Ploughing match organisers to cancel event

Mullahead

The plug has been pulled on the 105th Mullahead Ploughing Match which was due to take place next weekend.

Organisers behind the annual Co. Armagh event said two recent storms and one incoming has left them with no choice but to cancel the event on Saturday, February 29.

Announcing the news this evening (Friday), a spokesperson for the committee said: “It’s with regret that the committee have made the decision to cancel this year’s match.

“Unfortunately Storm Ciara, Dennis and incoming Storm Ellen has meant that our usually dry site is pretty soggy!

“Anyone who has paid entry or booked a trade stand will be fully refunded.

“We’re disappointed as I know many of our regular visitors will be, but we’ll see you all in 2021. Spread the word! The Mullahead DPS committee.”

Mullahead Annual Ploughing Match has grown since its foundation in 1912 to become the largest one day event of its kind across the UK, attracting thousands of spectators, young and old, every year.

Horse and tractor ploughing competitors from all over the UK descend on Co. Armagh, with Mullahead being the highlight of the ploughing calendar.
