The man behind the microphone at Portadown Football Club has been honoured with Life Membership following his retirement as Stadium Announcer.
Long-serving announcer Steven Wright has been a stalwart of the club, fulfilling his duties off-and-on between 2003 to 2011 and then consistently from 2011 onwards.
Over those some 20 years, Steven has become a highly popular figure among committee, players and fans alike and the club were only too proud to provide him with some much earned recognition.
Announcing Steven’s retirement a spokesperson for the club said: “Steven is a well-known and much-loved figure at Shamrock Park, having held the role of stadium announcer for over 20 years as well as other roles within the club, such as on the programme committee and the club’s Football Community Officer.
“Portadown chairman David Jameson, vice chairman, Paul Jackson along with the club’s directors, presented Steven with a trophy and Life Membership of the club ahead of Saturday’s game against Glentoran to mark his retirement.
“Everyone at Portadown Football Club thanks Steven for his tireless effort, commitment, service and time to the role and wish him well in his retirement.”
Steven will continue to regularly attend his beloved club’s games, with a side-line view rather than from up above!
