During the Covid-19 pandemic tourism and hospitality was undoubtable one of the worse affected sectors.

Many businesses found themselves having to diversify overnight just to be able to secure their business for the future. Many turned to offering take-away service, others simply offered free meals to those who were isolating and in need.

Local tourist attractions found themselves closed and unable to work and many sought other employment as a means to survive.

Chris McClure, store manager of JD Hunter & Co, said: “We at JD Hunter & Co are honoured to be able to recognise someone who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in championing tourism and hospitality in the local area.

“We are proud to sponsor this award and the positive impact it has made in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, South Armagh and Newry City area.”

This award is to recognise someone who, through their activities, has demonstrated outstanding achievement in championing the cause of tourism and hospitality in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area and South Armagh and Newry City, through innovation, promotion and campaigning. Shortlisting will be carried out on the following criteria

(a) how innovative their activities are,

(b) how original their actions are,

(c) how great an impact their actions have,

(d) how inspirational their drive is

(e) how their actions have brought the area’s tourism to the attention of a non-local audience in a positive way, perhaps in an international dimension.

You can nominate up until December 10 using this simple link here. Please note that only the information you submit can be considered when shortlisting, vague nominations may not be shortlisted. To give your nomination the best chance, please include as much detail as possible about their work.
