#NoExcuse campaign supports ending violence against women and girls

A campaign has been launched to raise awareness of violence against women and girls. The ‘#No Excuse’ campaign highlights the issues that are prevalent in our society in relation to violence against women and girls.

A recent information session was held at South Lakes Leisure Centre as part of the #NoExcuse campaign, supporting the ending of violence against women and girls.

The drop-in session enabled women and girls to learn more about what services are available across the borough for those experiencing gender-based violence.

Representatives from the council’s Safeguarding Team, Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Women’s Aid and the Policing and Community Safety Partnership were all in attendance to offer advice and support for those who needed it.

“This information session was a really significant and important part of the #NoExcuse campaign as it gave women and girls a safe space to come and access information to help themselves or someone they know,” commented the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Sarah Duffy.

“Violence against women and girls takes many forms including physical assault, sexual harassment, discrimination, financial abuse, emotional violence and stalking. For women and girls to know how and where they can get support is the first step in helping them take back control, to know that this is not their fault and that help is available.”

The #No Excuse campaign is ongoing over the next few weeks and highlights the issues that are prevalent in our society in relation to violence against women and girls. Statistics used throughout the campaign will show how women and girls are impacted from the harmful attitudes and behaviours exhibited by men and boys.

This campaign is run in partnership with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Newry and Mourne District Council and the Southern and South Eastern Health and Social Care Trusts.
