Magheralin residents facing ‘outrageous’ raw sewage situation just yards from homes

Magheralin residents are facing what has been described as an “outrageous” situation whereby raw sewage is leaking just yards from some homes.

Alliance Upper Bann representative Eóin Tennyson has said residents in Springhill Manor are having to deal with untreated sewage leaking from manholes into a nearby field – as little as 20 yards away from some properties.

Councillor Tennyson said NI Water must take action urgently to allay the situation.

“Residents have faced repeated problems with sewage over a number of years. Previously, NI Water has acted to clear the pipes but there is clearly a fundamental underlying issue with waste water infrastructure locally which has been left unaddressed.

“It is outrageous that the issue has been allowed to persist for this long, with raw sewage lying just 20 yards from some properties, creating a foul smell and an environmental health hazard.

“A permanent solution must be delivered as a matter of urgency.

“Alliance has impressed upon NI Water the need for further action. I’m grateful for their engagement and that they’ve committed to a survey and associated remedial works. Alliance will continue to work with them and other agencies push this investigation forward and ensure work on a lasting solution is conducted as soon as possible.”
