The hottest festival in Lurgan town this summer is just two weeks away and the acts are getting ready to bring a ‘night to remember’ to festival goers!
Set in the grounds of Lurgan Castle, Convergence will see six bands and a DJ perform live over eight hours on Saturday, August 23.
With a host of local singers set to hit the stage at this first-time festival, the night will end with an epic performance from the sensational The Magic Numbers.
They will be headlining the festival as part of their ‘On the Road’ 20th Anniversary Tour, playing hits including Forever Lost, Love Like You and Love’s a Game.
Hailing from London, the indie rock band is uniquely made up of two sets of siblings – Michele Stodart, Romeo Stodart, Angela Gannon and Sean Gannon – who, before forming as a band, met in school and bonded over their shared love of music.
Armagh I caught up with band member Michele Stodart to get an insight into what to expect at Convergence.
Michele said: “We’ve been touring all year to celebrate our anniversary and have played a few different gigs throughout Ireland. It’s been great to celebrate together as a band and travel around playing to the crowds – we love it.
“We’ve also been writing new music, so we’ll hopefully get to play a new song or two at Convergence.
“We love being on stage – for us it’s the best feeling ever. We always like to bring energy to the stage and find it helps us connect with the audience.”
The Magic Numbers are all for audience participation – so if you’re lucky enough to be going to Convergence, get ready to move and groove along!
“We really hope the crowd sings, jumps and claps along to our music and just completely forgets themselves. I think that’s the joy of festivals – the freedom you get to be with total strangers in a field, listening to lots of different kinds of music.
“We’re really excited to be playing at Convergence for the first time. The grounds look beautiful and we can’t wait to see everything come together. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to watch some of the support acts too.
“We love that it’s bringing local music into the area and giving smaller artists the chance to perform on a big stage.
“For years, we were always the band that played before the big act came on, so being the headliner is a big deal to us.”
Festival director Patricia Killoran said: “Being able to bring a band like The Magic Numbers to Lurgan – fresh from playing Glastonbury – is a dream come true. We’ve got an amazing venue that is so easy for people to get to and, more importantly, get home from when the night’s over.”
