Dumping outside gates of Keady Recycling Centre ‘has happened every day this week’

Rubbish Keady

Unscrupulous fly-tippers have continued to dump rubbish outside a Co. Armagh recycling centre despite it being closed.

The Keady amenity site has seen household rubbish – including a satellite dish – strewn outside the gates of the Annvale Road centre every day this week.

SDLP councillor Thomas O’Hanlon said prosecutions will follow as the waste is being examined.

“This was the scene outside the Recycling Centre in Keady this morning,” he said. “This has happened every day this week.

“I fully appreciate the difficulty around the Recycling Centres being closed.

“Councillors from all parties are pushing for this to be reviewed. However there is no excuse for dumping, either outside the recycling centre or at the road side.

“Not only is it irresponsible, it’s damaging our countryside and it’s illegal. What’s more, we don’t know what’s in the bags, they could be coming from a house which has someone with Covid19. This is putting everyone at risk.”

He added: “There are cameras at this site and the place is being monitored. The waste is being filtered and we know exactly where the waste has come from on each occasion this week. Prosecutions will follow!

“There are bottle banks outside the gates of the Recycling Centre, they can be used if need be!”
