Prayers are being requested for a young Portadown man who is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision near Markethill on Saturday.
Thirty-eight-year-old Aaron Moffett, from the Knocknamuckley area, was involved in a collision on the Coolmillish Road – on the way back from the Twelfth in Keady – at around 4.30pm.
Aaron is the former captain – and a club stalwart – of Dollingstown FC.
The club have thanked the public “for the incredible amount of messages and phone calls of support,” adding “it is no surprise really as we know how much Moff is loved throughout the whole community.”
“Our greatest ever player is fighting the fight of his life and we know he will give it his all as he always does.
“We ask you to get on your knees to pray for him and entire family at this time.”
Hubert Watson, former chairman of Dollingstown FC, who spoke to The Newsletter, said: ““My phone has not stopped for 48 hours…from family members ringing me who are on holiday, from other football clubs ringing me and offering help – he’s just so, so popular, so well known, and everybody’s devastated really.
“He’s a big character, very well-known and well-respected by everyone he met. He’s only 38 years of age, he’s a young man. Keep praying – that’s the only way. Miracles do happen.”
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, commented: “‘Keep praying – that’s the only way. Miracles do happen’. May we all hold tight to these words of Hubert Watson in the midst of such a difficult time for Aaron.
“Such awful news. We have been thinking much of Aaron over the weekend. Terrible news. A young man loved by everyone who knows him. Thinking and praying for him and his entire family circle at this time.”
Neil Robinson described Aaron as “genuinely one of the nicest lads you could meet”.
He said: “I always love chatting to him when he’s either out running or bumping into him in town talking to him about the day to day things he’s getting up to.
“I pray that God’s healing hand will be upon him in the hours and days ahead trusting that he will make a recovery, use your supportive hand on those who care for Aaron in hospital at this time and pray that you will keep his wife and his family circle strong in the support of knowing that we are all thinking of them at this time.”
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Roads Policing Inspector Cherith Adair said: “Detectives are conducting enquiries after a male passenger sustained serious injuries following an incident involving a vehicle shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday, July 12.
“One man has been cautioned.
“Our investigation is ongoing, as we work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We would appeal to anyone who has information which might assist, or any dash cam or mobile phone footage, to contact 101, and quote reference number 1461 of 12/07/25.”
