Three women killed and two men injured in Co Louth crash

Huge diversions are in place

Three women have died and two men are seriously injured after a car crash in Louth in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

The three-car collision happened near Ardee at around 1am.

Commuters from Northern Ireland travelling south are being advised that traffic is being diverted in Castleblayney.

A Garda spokeswoman added: “Diversions are in place but Gardaí are asking motorists using the M1 to divert at Junction 17 for Castleblayney.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Ardee Garda Station 041 6871130, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

The tragedy has claimed the lives of one female driver aged 39 and two female passengers, 37 and 69.

It is understood that the three women who died were travelling in the same car.

A three car collision occurred south of Aclint Bridge at Ardee at approximately 1am on Friday.

AA Roadwatch added: “N2 Dublin/Monaghan Rd expected to remain closed for rest of day at Aclint following serious crash.”
