Man and woman killed in Castleblayney collision while third woman fighting for life

Two people have died and a third is in a critical condition after a road traffic collision in County Monaghan.

The deceased – a man and woman in their 60s – died at the scene.

It happened shortly after 6pm tonight (Thursday) on the N2 at Mullaghnee, Castleblayney.

The collision involved two cars and a lorry.

The man and woman who died had been travelling in one of the cars, while a woman – also aged in her 60s – had been a passenger in the second car.

She has been taken to hospital in Drogheda, County Louth, where her condition is described tonight (Thursday) as “critical”.

The road remains closed at this time.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward.
