Police have praised passersby who stepped in after a four-year-old child was found in Dungannon.

And the incident has prompted a reminder for the public to take extra care when spending so much time at home.

The child had wandered “a fairly substantial distance” from their home.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Thanks to the swift actions of a number of passersby, the child was kept safe and returned home in a very short space of time.

“With everyone spending much more time at home recently, please make sure your doors are not easily opened by young ones whilst your back is turned.”
