A Waringstown man has admitted to causing the death of a motorcyclist by careless driving more than three years ago.
Stuart Gardiner, 23, of Beech Meadows, was today (Thursday) arraigned at Craigavon Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to causing the death of David Edwards on April 3, 2021 by driving carelessly on the Lany Road in Moira.
None of the facts around the case were opened in court but it was reported at the time how 60-year-old Mr Edwards, who was from the Aghalee area, was driving his Ducati motorbike when it was in collision with a JCB telehandler that Saturday afternoon.
During a brief hearing at Craigavon Court, Her Honour Judge McColgan, ordered a pre-sentence report to be with her by December 19.
After which, a plea and sentencing hearing was set for Friday, January 17.
Gardiner was freed on continuing bail until that date but was warned by Judge McColgan that the decision to free him was “not to be taken as an indication of how the matter will be disposed of”.
In light of the plea, Gardiner’s defence counsel, Damien Halleron, asked for the mandatory 12-month driving suspension to begin immediately, which was duly granted.
