Three serving police officers are facing court in relation to an alleged assault dating back just over a year, however an interim reporting restriction has been granted in respect of one of the accused.
Steven Cassidy and Michael Boyle, whose ages are unknown and with default addresses of PSNI Headquarters in Belfast, plus the third officer are jointly charged with assaulting a male on June 13, 2025.
No details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged offence were disclosed during the brief hearing before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.
Defence counsel for all three accused advised he has yet to receive video footage of the alleged incident and will require that before consulting further.
He also applied for an interim reporting ban on one of the officers due to ongoing concerns around specific risk to life.
Press agreed to the interim order pending review and evidence to support the application.
District Judge Michael Ranaghan listed the matter for mention and update on September 23.
When asked to clarify the employment status of the accused, a spokesperson said: “The officers are currently repositioned away from frontline duties while the criminal proceedings are ongoing. This is a temporary and neutral administrative act and not disciplinary action. As the matter is before the court, it would not be appropriate to comment further.”
