Bessbrook could be in line for a jobs boost with plans for five new light industrial and enterprise units in the village.
Proposals for the development – which would represent a significant investment – have been submitted to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for consideration.
The site in question is at the Richbrook Industrial Estate.
The plans have been lodged by Bessbrook man Mark Weir, who hopes to build a total of five units with a collective floorspace in excess of 10,300 sq ft.
According to the application, the development – along the Mill Road, beside the former army base – could create an estimated 10 jobs when up and running.
It is not known what businesses would be arriving in Bessbrook if the proposals are given the go-ahead.
The application informs planners: “The end user of each unit is unknown at this stage but no heavy machinery or processing is involved or envisaged at this stage.”
