"All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide vital care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families at the toughest time."

Five members of Tynan Surgery’s staff are proving that they would move mountains to support their patients in an epic ‘Beat the Trails’ challenge.

The team – comprised of Roberta Gillespie, Diane Bloomer, Grainne Sheerin, Pat Carlile and Robert Carlile – will complete an 18 mile hike through Northern Ireland’s “most dramatic” mountain range in an effort to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Mourne Mountain challenge – scheduled for June 14 – aims to raise vital funds for the charity which the team at Tynan have first hand experience of.

Said Dr Carlile: “Over the years, many of our patients have benefitted from the care provided by the Marie Curie team who all undertake their role with dedication and compassion.

“All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide vital care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families at the toughest time.”

Here in Northern Ireland, the charity provides compassionate end of life care at their Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast. They also support the people close to them receive the care and support they need.

The hospice also provides in-patient care, outpatient day services and holistic family support and offers a range of community and outpatient services, like relaxing therapies and breathlessness workshops, to anyone affected by terminal illness.

Together, the Tynan Surgery team have set a target of £1,250 on a JustGiving page which is now receiving donations and has already surpassed the £600 mark.

Dr Carlile said: “It’s time for me and the team to put our best foot forward and step out in aid of Marie Curie. If you could give us a bit of encouragement in the form of a donation to this very worthy cause we would all greatly appreciate it.”
