Traffic at standstill in Armagh city centre as Newry Road closed following incident

Police accident night

Traffic is at a standstill in Armagh city following a suspected road traffic collision this evening (Friday).

Emergency services are dealing with an incident on the Newry Road close to the Armagh City Golf Club, which happened shortly after 8pm.

The road has been closed in both directions and motorists coming from the Armagh direction are being diverted up Langs Crescent towards Barrack Hill.

Eye-witnesses say traffic is at a standstill with cars coming creating a jam at the Friary Road roundabout as a result of the closure.

It remains unclear exactly what has happened but there are police and ambulance crews in attendance with officers diverting traffic away from the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the Newry Road.

There are no further details at this stage. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
