The Cake Shop confirms closure plans as another business bows out

Closure will take effect from Saturday, June 30.

Another of Armagh city’s long-standing and most popular shops is to close.

The Cake Shop has been a mainstay at English Street for many years.

But co-owner Caroline Johnston has confirmed to Armagh I that it will close.

The closure will take effect from Saturday, June 30.

Today, (Tuesday), the Cake Shop has been advertised for sale.

The agent tasked with the sale is the Property Spot, and the total premises carries an asking price of £175,000.

The property consists of a cake shop and bakery on the ground floor, with rooms above.

It is stated that it can be sold “vacant or as a going concern”.

It is listed as boasting “three extensive floors”, while the property is mooted as being “in need of modernisation”.

According to the agent, the property could also be eligible for funding in the form of a heritage grant; indeed, it was one of those identified as a potential candidate under the townscape heritage funding initiative in the city centre.

The Cake Shop has been a firm favourite with Armagh folk for many years and will be a sad loss to the city.

We wish the owners well for the future and thank them for their service to Armagh.
