If fly-tipping wasn’t bad enough, those responsible for this mess chose one of Armagh’s most protected sites.
Instead of opting for a sanitary trip to the city’s household recycling centre just a few miles away on Station Road, the culprit opted for the offensive and chucked their rubbish at the entrance to Navan Fort.
Lord Mayor Sarah Duffy spoke of her disgust, saying she both “deeply saddened and outraged” to learn of the illegal dumping at “one of our most sacred and ancient sites”.
“This location is not just a landmark; it is a place of immense historical, cultural, and spiritual significance for our community,” she added.
“To see it treated with such blatant disrespect is completely unacceptable. Illegal dumping is a scourge on our environment, and there is really no excuse when we have an amenity centre less than three miles away!
“I have liaised with council officials, environmental health, and other relevant authorities to ensure this matter is dealt with swiftly and decisively. Hopefully there is an address within the bags so that those responsible can be held accountable for their actions.”
