A long-awaited resurfacing project has finally begun on the Annareagh Road in Hamiltonsbawn, much to the relief of local motorists and residents.
The works, which are taking place in the vicinity of Hamiltonsbawn Primary School, had originally been scheduled by the Department for Infrastructure (DFI) for summer 2024 but were delayed.
Cusher DUP representative Alderman Gareth Wilson has welcomed the start of the scheme, describing it as a “vital investment” that will address years of recurring road defects.
He said: “This is very welcome work and I thank DFI locally for the investment in this stretch of road. The location has been a source of ongoing defects for some years with repeated deep potholes appearing on a regular basis which caused considerable damage to vehicles over a period of time.”
Highlighting the scale of the project, Alderman Wilson said the fact that a longer section is being fully resurfaced is key to ensuring long-term improvements.
“The fact that a longer stretch is being totally resurfaced will greatly improve the road surface at the location and hopefully last for many years to come and provide a defect-free surface for motorists to drive on,” he added.
The councillor noted that he has assisted numerous drivers in making claims for damage caused by potholes along the road, underlining the importance of the work now underway.
“I know from assisting people through the DFI claims process that vehicles were damaged as a result of hitting defects at the location and that makes this work all the more vital and welcomed and I thank DFI for their efforts in this regard,” he concluded.
