Lord Mayor’s gala dinner raises over £4,000 for Motor Neurone Disease charity

Standing ovation for Special Olympics stars Cyril and Caolan

The annual Lord Mayor’s dinner has raised almost £4,500 for charity – and the man himself’s delighted!

Garath Keating hosted the gala evening at the Armagh City Hotel on Saturday night in aid the fantastic work of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

For the first time, the Lord Mayor decided to put on sale tickets to the event.

There was also a fantastic response from the local businesses who donated prizes to the raffle.

Lord Mayor Keating was also thrilled to have two special guests of honour – Cyril Walker and Caolan McConville.

Thirteen-year-old Caolan, from Aghagallon, and Cyril, from Markethill, each took a silver and bronze medal at the recent Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria for skiing.

They received a standing ovation on the night, with guests delighted to see them bringing along their medals.

Lord Mayor Keating has thanked everyone who came along on Saturday.

He said: “It was a great success and a fantastically enjoyable night thanks to wonderful food and service by the Armagh City Hotel and cracking music by 2nd Drawer Down, Flowers and Guitars and Hair O’ The Dawg.”

He added: “Thank-you to you all for making it such a great night raising almost £4,500 pounds for a wonderful cause.”
