A 33-year-old man accused of causing the deaths of a father and son in a road traffic collision last year has been returned for trial at Newry Crown Court.
Ivan Petrov, of Newry Road, Armagh, faces two counts of causing death by dangerous driving as well as three counts of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving.
He is charged in connection with a collision on December 27, 2024, in which Peter Devlin (63) and his son, 28-year-old Loughlin Devlin, from Killylea, lost their lives. The pair had been travelling in the same car when it was involved in a crash with a vehicle allegedly driven by Petrov.
Peter’s wife, Ursula Devlin, sustained serious injuries in the incident, while another woman and a young baby were also taken to hospital for treatment.
The case was listed before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Newry, on Tuesday.
A prosecution lawyer told the court there was a prima facie case to answer. The defence made no contrary submissions.
When asked in court if he wished to say anything in response to the charges, Petrov replied: “I’m sorry this happened.”
District Judge Peter Magill said Petrov will be returned for arraignment at Newry Crown Court on October 12. There he will either plead guilty or not guilty to the charges.
