The unfortunate ‘chicken jockey’ hype has hit Armagh and the experience has left one parent of a moviegoer incensed.
Following a trip to see the new Minecraft movie with friends on May 3, one Armagh boy’s parent said he had his evening ruined by a group of children who created a disturbance during the showing.
His mother took to social media to persuade parents to speak to their children if they were at the 8pm screening of the film, explaining that it “wasn’t just a low key teenager messing session, it was properly disturbing and disgusting”.
For several weeks now, the Minecraft movie has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons after the ‘chicken jockey’ scene became the source of a new ‘popcorn throwing’ trend that the Evening Standard says has left moviegoers “up in arms”.
Cinemas across the globe have reported episodes of chaos during the scene, where audiences would become particularly animated with incidents ranging from shouting to throwing popcorn and generally creating havoc.
Frustrated, the parent continued: “Disgusting behaviour and really in shock that these children are allowed to behave like that!
“These are Armagh children throwing buckets of popcorn to parents taking their little ones to the cinema to watch a kids’ movie.
“Children throwing popcorn like savages, screaming and disturbing the whole cinema!
“Raging that this is accepted by many and those parents who stood up and asked them to stop were attacked with more bags of popcorn.”
The parent said there were only “three young staff members” on site at the time and that they “weren’t able to call the police” but she has asked that parents “educate” their children that this kind of behaviour “cannot be tolerated”.
She adds: “It’s not fair on adults taking their kids to have enjoyment, it’s not a safe working environment for the staff members and definitely not the right example for our little ones.”
