All recycling centres across Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area are closing from tonight (Wednesday).
The closure will be in place until further notice.
The decision comes two days after complaints of traffic queues in the area of Station Road, when huge numbers of cars attempted to get to the recycling centre there and disrupted other businesses in the area.
Vehicles were only being permitted on site two at a time.
Now the council has opted to close all recycling centres completely.
An ABC Council spokesperson said: “This decision has been made in the interest of public safety.
“As a council the welfare of our citizens and employees is of the upmost importance during this unprecedented situation.
“Therefore these closures are necessary to limit unnecessary social contact and support key Governmental advice stay at home.
“This situation will be kept under review, and the public will be notified of any further changes to service delivery.”
