Man accused of 1982 murder of three police officers at Lurgan has case adjourned

The officers were in an unmarked police car and a bomb was detonated remotely by a command wire

A man accused of murdering three police officers near Lurgan in 1982 has had his case further adjourned to August 22.

Martin McCauley (62) had his case mentioned at  Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Three Royal Ulster Constabulary officers were murdered in an explosion at Kinnego Embankment near Lurgan in October 1982.

The officers were Sergeant Sean Quinn and Constables Allan McCloy and Paul Hamilton.

The IRA claimed responsibility for the attack. The officers were in an unmarked police car and a bomb was detonated remotely by a command wire.

McCauley, who is originally from County Armagh, has an address listed as in Naas in County Kildare.

He is on continuing bail.
