Waringstown village hosts spectacular three day flower festival with help of world-renowned florist

The historically listed Presbyterian Church in Waringstown is set to become the ideal setting for an extensive three-day Flower Festival from Thursday, June 20 to Saturday, June 22.

Preparations are now in place for what should be a memorable community outreach event and one that will stand out in the history of the local church with its Florentine distinctive towers and building designed by the famous architect and civil engineer, Charles Lanyon.

The organisers have scooped the services of world-renowned professional florist, national judge, demonstrator and teacher within the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies, Alan Beatty who is designing and undertaking the biblically-themed flower arrangements that will be spaced around a circuit throughout the buildings.

Alan has travelled widely throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland in these roles and has been in demand for events in numerous countries including a return visit to Charleston, USA to give a series of demonstrations.

Some years ago Alan led a NI Group of Flower Arrangement Societies to the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and where they were well recognised, winning a coveted Gold medal.

Given Alan’s considerable and illustrious experience, the organisers are certain that the many festival visitors will enjoy an impressive display.

The fifteen floral displays will be based on four theologically bible-based themes – Creation, The Fall, Redemption and Consummation while homing in on a particular passage at each display.

Other floral contribution and crafts produced by organisations will be stationed throughout the new halls.

The Festival will get off the ground on Thursday June 20, at 11am with a Service in the Church with the day ending with an Epilogue at 7pm.

Morning Worship will also take place at 11am on the second day as will an Epilogue at 7pm; while Saturday will take the same form with the three day event ending at 7pm with a Celebration Service.

Commenting on the event, Rev Mark Haugh, Minister of Waringstown Presbyterian Church said: “The June Flower Festival provides a wonderful opportunity for the whole community here in Waringstown together with people from all over the country to enjoy the beauty and artistry of flower arrangement, as it articulates the timeless truths of the Bible.”

Donations will be most welcome and will be in aid of overseas missions and refreshments will be available throughout the festival event.
